Quick note, before we get into today's discussion about Healthy Muscles I want to remind you that our Lead Massage Therapist will be releasing a series of stretch videos, showing you 3 stretches in 2 minutes
you can do:

    - at your desk
    - between massage sessions, or
    - when you find yourself getting ready to stand up and finally move from that desktop you been staring at all morning and when you do, you feel this sudden, sharp, and shooting pain in your lower back.

Yep! Its time to give your muscles a little bit of attention with a few key stretches or why not a brief therapeutic massage session. By any means, you can view those stretch videos here on our channel or over on our blog Moments of Peace and Ease at www.elatedharmonies.com/stretch

Now lets get into this brief discussion of Healthy Muscles and Maintenance and the 3 things you can start incorporating TODAY!

Massage Therapy for Muscle Health

Think about this...
You typically associate muscle health with primarily exercise:

    - At the Gym you are looking to build and strengthen your muscles
    - At Yoga studio your looking to tone and define your muscles
    - But have you ever considered a Massage Studio to restore and maintain muscle health?

Im sure you know that tense, stiff, and weak Skeletal Muscles not only lack that desirable aesthetic you seek by putting in all that work and effort at gym or yoga studio it may not only lack that desirable aesthetic
but can cause immobility, or even worse chronic pain! Now take out that intense gym workout, you do 5 times a week and insert that “never-enough-time-in-the-day” #officelife that has you:

    - gulping down mugs of coffee
    - sitting stationary in one spot for hours
    - and hunched over at your desk (forget about posture, you’re on a tight deadline)

And you can see how muscle health and maintenance can easily fall by the wayside in your daily priorities. Here are 3 things you can start right now at your desk.

Number 1: Hydrate the Muscles

Number 1, Hydrate Your Muscles
Now hydrating the muscles prevent muscle breakdown by flushing out toxins, reducing muscle fatigue, and helping make necessary nutrients accessible to the muscle when needed. So try Hot Water with Lemon early in the morning, try Cucumber, Lemon, and Ginger water before your lunch, and keep a bottle of water at your desk while your hammering away at your to-do list.

Number 2: Warm the Muscles

Number 2, Warm Your Muscles
Did you know that warm muscles:

    - Allow more blood flow
    - Release of oxygen easier, and
    - Contribute to faster muscle contraction and relaxation

Now you wonder why is all this needed at the time when I’m just trying to submit deliverables on a tight deadline. Well this can help with that chronic pain you suffer with so try this combo, Himalayan Salt Luminator with tea light and Himalayan Salt Stone massage ball now this can sit right on your desk and when you need a bit a therapy pick up the massage ball and massage it onto the trigger point. Try this out next time you find yourself spinning your wheels and watching the clock to complete and submit that deliverable on time.

Number 3: Stretch the Muscle

Number 3, Stretch the Muscle

Lastly of course we emphasize stretching the muscle to reduce muscular tension and stiffness and increase circulation. This overall can help the body feel less stressed and tense so you can clear your mindset of that frustration from whomsoever we won’t mention here. Now what 3 stretches can I do right here at my desk you may ask? We suggest these 3 to stretch your wrists, your neck, and your hips.

Ooh its demo time, lets head over there for more room

Wrist Stretch

Now the first stretch is a wrist flexor stretch, to do this:

    - Extend your right arm in front of you with your palm up.
    - Bend your wrist, pointing your hand toward the floor.
    - With your left hand, gently bend your right wrist farther until you feel a mild to moderate stretch in your forearm.
    - Hold for at least 15 to 30 seconds.

Neck Stretch

Our next stretch suggestion is for your neck but it really can benefit both your neck and upper shoulder.

    - Slowly tilt your head sideways, we’ll start with the right bringing your ear toward your shoulder.
    - When you feel the stretch in the opposite side (in this case the left) of your neck.
    - Take your right hand and gently push toward your right shoulder.
    - Hold for 5 seconds, release and then slowly raise your head back up.
    - Complete 5 sets on each side

Hip Stretch

And lastly a you can try a hip stretch to do right from your chair to benefit both your hip and lower back.

    - While in the seated position, cross your right leg over the left as much as you can.
    - Now take your left arm and place it on the outer side of your right knee.
    - Twist your shoulders to face that direction and feel a stretch all through your spinal column.
    - Hold for at least 15 to 30 seconds. Repeat for the left leg.

Alright guess we should get back to the left, to the left for a recap.

Bonus Tip: Brief Massage Sessions

Here’s a Bonus tip: You Guessed it Brief Massage Sessions

Take advantage of brief massage sessions offered in the workplace bi-weekly or monthly depending on your sessions goals, health conditions, and occupational stress levels to maintain lengthened, soft, and pliable muscles.

The Recap: Hydrate, Warm, Stretch, and Massage

Alright, Alright lets Recap
When you think Massage Therapy you should think Muscle Health you know you can build, tone, and define muscles in the gym but your Massage Therapist can help you maintain muscle pliability that lead to greater mobility, stability and what we all desire aside from a aesthetically pleasing frame is: A PAIN FREE FRAME!

So try these 3 things to start showing your muscles a little attention

Number 1, Hydrate the Muscle Water, Water, Water.

    - Hot water with lemon
    - Cucumber, Lemon, Ginger Water
    - or just plain tap water. Whatever it is, drink some and your muscles will thank you

Number 2, Warm the Muscle.
This nice little stone not only looks pretty awesome on your desk but feels amazing as it holds just enough heat warm and relax the muscle on que.

Number 3, Stretch the Muscle
A quick wrist stretch, neck stretch, and hip stretch right from your desk will increase circulation helping to ease that muscle tension and get rid of that frustration at its onset.

Bonus Tip: And of course, you can find yourself a Licensed Massage Therapist to build brief therapeutic massage sessions into your health routine. Those skilled techniques can increase blood flow and encourage that parasympathetic state that’s exactly what those unattended muscles needs.
