View Our Insights and Our Stretch Videos

But again as you know, if you've been watching this series of videos we have been sharing as many insights as we can regarding therapeutic massage in the workplace. We believe its is not only a great tool for combating occupational stress, but getting rid of that frustration and that less-than-productive energy at its onset, as well as relieving that pain you suffer with daily at your desk.

So if you were unaware, we are on episode 11 of In-Studio Moments, that means there is a lot of insights probably missed like this one here and oh yeah this one right here but don't worry because there is something you haven't missed out on yet and that is our new series of stretch videos we are getting ready to release where our Lead Massage Therapist shares with you 3 stretches in 2 minutes that you can do:

    - At your desk
    - Between massage sessions, or
    - When you realize that you haven't moved from that one spot all morning and all afternoon because you've been restlessly hammering away at that to-do list

Yep! Your body is hating you right about now, but don't worry we know how to make it fall in love with you again. One word: CIRCULATION and that's with stretching or therapeutic massage.

So don't forget to comment below by saying hello, hello or give us one word you feel restores the body and mind connection when thrown off from certain circumstances in the workplace. Alright now lets get into what you come for: What makes a Great Massage Therapist Great!
Of course in good 'ol EHM fashion, we're starting with 3 key aspects of a exceptional Massage Therapist.

Professional Training

Number 1, Professional Training

Now your Massage Therapist primary job is to manipulate your muscles and soft tissues in efforts to enhance your well-being by:

    - Increasing circulation and blood flow to that area
    - Loosening the muscle to improve muscle pliability, and
    - Stimulating that parasympathetic state giving your body the chance to restore and renew the way its suppose to naturally.

So in order to do this, a Licensed Massage Therapist must be trained not only in technique --but depending on their state-- they must have no less than 500 - 600 hours hands-on, in-the-field, clinical hours but have studied credit hours in:

    - Anatomy
    - Kinesiology, and even some
    - Psychology

The Therapist must have passed the national MBLEx exam on modalities, ethics, and contraindications and carry malpractice insurance.

Now for some reason you have some individuals out there toting around that they are Massage Therapists and that they give a great massage but clearly if they do not have:

    - Accredited bodywork training hours
    - State-licensing, and
    - Insurance

There Are Not!

Session Engagement

This leads us to Number 2, Session Engagement

Now within this training your Licensed Massage Therapist has learned: Client Assessment, Treatment, and Engagement. So you should be aware that a EXCEPTIONAL Massage Therapist will want to engage with you: before, during, and after your session.

So ask yourself did your Licensed Massage Therapist:

    - Do a brief intake regarding your health conditions before the start of your session?
    - Ask about your pressure preference (light, firm, or somewhere in between)?
    - Ask about your session goals and what you were looking to achieve from your massage session and your next few sessions?
    - Ask did she or he meet your expectations at the completion of your session? and
    - Provide refreshment afterward to help your stay hydrated?

If not, than you may have a Massage Therapist but are they an EXCEPTIONAL Massage Therapist, hmm?

Quick Note:
Now an EXCEPTIONAL Massage Therapist will also show you some stretches to do and therapeutic bodywork tools to use between massage sessions. This will help keep the muscles: lengthened, soft, and malleable.
So I guess your not just investing in moments of peace but investing in your body's:

    - Mobility
    - Flexibility, and
    - Range of Motion Abilities

Studio Cleanliness

Last but not least is Number 3, Cleanliness

Now this is for both Massage Therapist personal hygiene and Massage Studio cleanliness. Fresh Breath, Clean Finger Nails and an “Odor-free” Body Odor goes without further explanation because literally this is just the bare minimum.

    - Is your Massage Therapist wearing a clean uniform?
    - Is your Massage Therapist washing their hands before and after your session?
    - Does your Massage Therapist have a towel over their shoulder or sweatband to wipe their sweat?

And look around the Massage Studio for cleanliness items and procedures.

    - The Massage Therapist need to disinfect the table, chair, and containers with disinfecting wipes beginning of the day, end of the day, and between each session.
    - The Massage Therapist needs to have clean linens this includes: towels, sheets, and any guest clothing items
    - The Massage Therapist needs to have a clean treatment area. This area should be free of dirt, dust, and mold, supply enough ambient lighting to inspect these things and adequate ventilation, heating, and cooling

Again if not, then you need to seek out an EXCEPTIONAL Massage Therapist.

Professional Training, Session Engagement, and Cleanliness

Whew! That was only the beginning but enough of a starter for this video SO LETS RECAP!

There are 3 key aspects to EXCEPTIONAL Licensed Massage Therapist:

Number 1, Professional Training:

    - That's accredited bodywork training hours and course credit hours
    - That's passing the national MBLEx for state-licensing, and
    - That's adequate current malpractice insurance

Number 2, Session Engagement, did the Therapist ask about:

    - Your Current Health Conditions
    - Pressure Preference
    - Session Goals and Expectations, and
    - Suggest stretches and tools to maintain muscle pliability between sessions

And Lastly Number 3, Cleanliness
Fresh breath, clean fingernails, and odor-free BO is just not enough. Look for:

    - Clean professional uniform,
    - Clean linens,
    - Sink and soap dispenser to wash hands
    - Disinfecting wipes to clean equipment, containers, and surfaces as well as a clean, well-lit, well-ventilated treatment area

Yep that's a starter list for what makes a Great Massage Therapist Great!
